Blog #4: A Change in Direction…
Well, something happened today that I’m quite happy about, and as it will affect my writing, I figured I’d post here about it (for the 3 of you who actually read this…hehe). I made the decision, after a LOT of consideration and back-and-forth conversations with my husband, to withdraw from my University studies for the time being. I found out recently that, due to my medical history making my academic history somewhat sporadic over the past few years, I will be unable to attend Teachers’ College, as I’d originally planned. And let’s face it, what else can a person do with an English degree nowadays? I was stressing myself out over these courses, and yet I’m not going to be able to do what I want to do when I’m done anyway. So I’ve put my degree on hold for the time being, and am looking in other directions for something to do with my life.
How does that have anything to do with my writing, you may ask? Well, it’s simple really. Now that I don’t have to devote every spare moment to my studies, I actually have time to sit down and write, to clear my mind and focus solely on my characters and their lives for a little while. I was so excited about Peyton and her story (Some Scars Never Heal) when I first got the idea, but my school work got in the way, and every time I found myself inspired to write, I had to force myself to open a book or commit an essay to the page instead. I hated how much time my courses took up, especially when I’d lose a great idea because I had to do something other than write it down at the time it struck me. So now I can do what I want, when I want, and not worry about deadlines or exams or whatever else went along with studying daily for 8 or more hours (yes, I actually did spend that kind of time with my books :S).
Anyway, things are on track with Peyton’s story now, and I’ll be posting the next update on Saturday, as planned. I’m spending all day tomorrow writing, so if I get enough done, there may be a “bonus” update, but I can’t promise anything. Happy reading, everyone, and don’t forget to post comments about the updates.
